Czech cuisine is considered to be not-so-healthy, pretty heavy and VERY delicious. All of these adjectives are suitable. It´s neither the healthiest nor lightest of the global world´s cuisines. But it is for sure worth trying, enjoying and falling in love with. Here are some local restaurants you can visit with no doubt of TOP notch quality.
Lokál is a pub and restaurant belonging to Ambiente Group, a chain of premium cafés and restaurants with different concepts. It is in itself something like a badge of quality. Some dishes in Lokál are on a pricey side – f.e. You pay around 170 CZK for fried cheese called “Smažák” with potatoes. But some are reasonably priced. Local beer is epic. And the atmosphere? Great. Lokál has many branches around the city so you can choose the one closest to our apartments. It is favoured by locals as well as tourists.
Who would have thought there is great restaurant serving Czech food right in the centre of Prague for really low prices? Havelská koruna will make your belly as well as your wallet very happy indeed. The interior is not stunning at all but the food makes up for it. It works as a bistro where you get a piece of paper after arrival, then wait in a line, choose your food and take it to your seat right away. You pay your bill when you leave the restaurant. Be sure not to lose your ordering paper. You would have to pay a penalty of 500 CZK.
Myšák also belongs to Ambiente Group. Owners follow up the history of the original famous pastry-shop of František Myšák and his pastry-making talent. So you can enjoy traditional Czech dessert there as well as a unique breakfast. We are sure eggs Benedict with Prague ham and hollandaise sauce or Czech buns with vanilla and rum custard won’t leave you disappointed but more than satisfied.
Based in 1843, popular up until this day. Restaurant U Pinkasů is one of the most traditional and iconic restaurants and pubs in Prague where you receive premium beer and exquisite food. Food is prepared based on recipes of grandmothers and grand-grandmothers. Homemade cream sauce, pork knee, baked chicken wings,… Everything is just…dreamy. The chefs make sure food is made from the best ingredients and is as healthy as possible. Who wouldn´t like that?
V Kolkovně is another option when you are in the city centre. The portions are huge and their smoked pork knuckle is famous around Prague. It is a popular place by locals to go for a beer in the city centre. Good beer on tap is also guaranteed. You will find them in V Kolkovně street. Do make a reservation here.
