This year is the third time Prague will be hosting international jazz festival called YOUNG JAZZ TUNES 2012. The event will take place from April, 13 to May, 3 on particular days stated below. The main aim of the festival is to attract young people to jazz music and support jazz music scene in Czech Republic.
On each festival night various young and talented musicians and bands will present themselves to our visitors. On the first evening you can see the performance of Slovak ZVA 12-28 Band. Their music retains blues rhythms while originally introducing elements of violin and traditional folk music at the same time.
The Portico Quartet is a nu-jazz project from Great Britain that will be performing on the following evening. In 2008, the band was appointed a prestigious Mercury Prize nominee. This band performs at major jazz festivals in Europe (Davos, Switzerland, Jazz Festival and London Jazz Festival). Their visit to Prague is a part of their European tour promoting their new album.
The third concert evening will be dedicated to world-renowned Tony Lakatoshi. This Hungarian saxophonist prepared in cooperation with the German trumpet (brass) player Axel Schlosser a special project just for this festival. He also invited several young Czech musicians to participate.
The highlight of the festival will be the Czech singer Ida Kelarová who will be presenting her long-awaited CD album Šunen Savore. Her performance will be accompanied by her band Jazz Famelija. The vivacity of Gipsy music together with Ida´s unique voice both guarantee an extraordinary music experience.
A component part of the support to young Czech talents and Czech jazz music is a competition called Jazz Fruit.
