It’s an obvious question, but answering it is not as easy as you think! That’s because Prague is an extremely popular tourist destination, and many new restaurants have opened up to feed hungry visitors. Unfortunately, many of these establishments are expensive but offer poor value. You’re most likely to find such places around Wenceslas Square, Old Town Square and the Královská cesta (Royal Way) – the route between Old Town Square and the Castle.

But it’s still possible to eat cheaply in Prague 1, and in this three-part series, we list a varied selection of central restaurants serving meals that should cost around CZK 350 or less. Some of them are close to the Bohemia Apartments Prague reception or the apartments themselves.

Barbar - Všehrdova 19, Lesser Quarter

On a quiet and winding lane in the Lesser Quarter, BarBar is easily missed. Sweet and savoury crepes feature strongly in the internationally-themed menu. The striking interior was created by several artists.

Beas -Týnská 19, Old Town & Vladislavova 24, New Town

If you’ve had one dumpling too many and want an alternative to meat-oriented Czech cuisine, you could try Beas, which serves almost exclusively Indian dishes and is entirely vegetarian. The restaurants operate on a self-service basis and the menu includes Indian-style sweets and sweet and savoury varieties of lassi, a yoghurt-based drink.

Bředovský dvůr - Politických vězňů 13, New Town

Very near Wenceslas Square, and close to the Bohemia Apartments Prague reception, Bředovský dvůr opened several years ago and is designed like a traditional Czech pub. Unsurprisingly traditional Czech food predominates at Bředovský dvůr, which is very popular with locals.

Pizzeria Colosseum - Václavské nám. 1, Vodičkova 32 & Na Poříčí 16, New Town, and Ovocný trh 8, Old Town

This long-established, popular chain serves an extensive range of pizzas and pasta dishes. It’s slightly more expensive than the average central Prague pizzeria. The Vodičkova restaurant is close to the Bohemia Apartments Prague office.

Pizzeria Rugantino - Dušní 4, Old Town

Regarded by some as serving the best pizza in Prague, Pizzeria Rugantino was one of the first pizzerias to open in Prague after 1989. The pizzas come with numerous toppings and are baked in a wood-fired oven. Unlike many Prague restaurants, Pizzeria Rugantino is child friendly too.

Kolkovna Olympia - Vítězná 7, Lesser Quarter

If you’re looking for hearty, traditional Czech fare, you should add Olympia to your list. You’ll find all the classic dishes served in a more upmarket atmosphere than a traditional pub, but at reasonable prices.
